An exclusive five-star hotel in Ayia Napa, repeatedly voted as one of the best hotels in the world, incorporating an underground car park. The car park roof is utilised as an extensive luscious garden and also tennis courts, also providing the main access road to the hotel’s entrance.
There was widespread ingress of water from the roof into the park below, which affected the concrete reinforcement. The existing soil had to be removed, the concrete slab was repaired and a proven effective waterproofing system was required to be installed over a newly laid screed, which must have excellent elongation properties yet be very strong to provide for expansion joint movements.
The system must also be root resistant. The final parameter was the speed of installation as 3000 m2 had to be installed within 5 working days thereafter to enable the hotel to resume operation.
